Diner Elopement - Styled Session

Photographed by Katie Africano & Megan Gulino

Every wedding we shoot, we collaborate with some seriously talented people in the WNY area. Styled shoots allow us to reach an entirely new universe of creativity and inspiration.  The concept for this styled shoot was an adventurous couple eloping at Buffalo City Hall followed by a romantic meal at the Swan Street Diner in Larkinville. Mostly we wanted the chance to travel back in time to photograph a wedding filled with birdcage hair pieces, milk shakes and a 1961 Chevy Bel-Air... but also wanted to show our more alternative couples that even if you just want to elope we would LOVE to take some photos. Thank you to all the amazingly creative vendors who participated to make this happen.

Hair & Makeup

Since the shoot was vintage inspired, Atomic Barbershop was the perfect fit for hair and makeup. It was such a pleasure to work with Lauren Ashley and her shop is in a super cute part in the City of Tonawanda. I was super impressed by her knowledge of vintage style and techniques. If only we had listened to her expert advice that maybe an updo would have been better given the weather forecast... but at least we got some good shots of the glamorous Hollywood curls Kristina and I wanted for the look before the major down pour.

The Dress

When you want a wedding dress that is beautiful, well made and most importantly unique... call Made by Anatomy. Ali Eagen opened Made by Anatomy in 2010 and has been designing custom-made gowns for Buffalo's most stylish brides. We knew she would have exactly what we needed to complete the look for our adventure eloping bride.

The Details

I met Bethany over the winter at a bridal event and after about 3 minutes of casual talk, we immediately jumped to "let's plan a styled shoot!"  Flowers, signage, jewelry, veils, hair accessories, custom gifts... whatever you need - B in a Bonnet can do it! She seriously brought this shoot to another level by providing every detail from the vintage jewelry and custom birdcage to super cute straws for their milkshakes.

Kristina & Justin "elope"!

Not only is Kristina Fekhtman a seriously talented model that we had always wanted to photograph, she also has the most caring, loving  and handsome fiancé who agreed to come along for the ride. They were totally into the concept but for everyone who knows them in real life... they didn't actually get married yet! Unfortunately, the weather didn't allow us to use Buffalo City Hall to our full potential but it resulted in some awesome umbrella shots!

The Cake

It is tradition that the bride and groom would share a piece of cake  to symbolize their union and their promise to forever provide for each other. So even if you are just eloping, Allison from Parkedge Sweets can make you the perfect cake. I'm obsessed with how she was inspired by our concept, and it tasted really good!

Swan Street Diner

Let's be honest, the Swan Street Diner Car is the true inspiration for this shoot. Originally built in 1937, the fully restored diner is filled with history and nostalgia. The intimate booths were perfect for the newlyweds to share a delicious meal made by chef Amanda Amico of burger, fries, milkshakes and donuts (according to Justin - the best he has had in Buffalo). We were also super lucky to be joined by Paul Straus and his 1961 Chevy Bel-Air. I still can't believe how amazing everything looked together.

Winter Bridal - Styled Session

Oh, be still my beating heart the styled shoot! It’s something extremely important when you are in a wedding related business. For me, I enjoy doing styled sessions because they push me to explore, experiment and have the creative freedom to produce my best work. I mean, look at how gorgeous the salon, model, flowers, ALPACAS and wedding dress are!!! They are just not the norm. It takes a village of collaborators to pull something like this off. Make sure you read each vendors explanation of their creative process for the shoot. And if you see something you can not live without, each vendors contact info can be found at the bottom of this post. <3 Megan Gulino
